Summary:

Join our dedicated team at the Grand Prairie Radio Amateur Civil Emergency Service (RACES) as a Volunteer Amateur Radio Operator/SKYWARN Storm Spotter. In this role, you will play a crucial part in our emergency communication and storm spotting efforts, assisting in providing timely and accurate information during severe weather events. This is a volunteer position ideal for individuals passionate about amateur radio and community service, with opportunities to contribute to public safety and emergency preparedness initiatives in Grand Prairie and surrounding areas.


Responsibilities:

- Operate amateur radio equipment to provide communication support during emergencies and community events.

- Monitor weather conditions and report severe weather phenomena as a trained SKYWARN Storm Spotter.

- Collaborate with local emergency management agencies and organizations to relay critical information and assist in coordinated response efforts.

- Participate in training sessions and drills to maintain proficiency in emergency communication protocols and storm spotting techniques.


Preferred Qualifications:

- Valid Amateur Radio Operator license issued by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC).

- Completion of SKYWARN Storm Spotter training provided by the National Weather Service (NWS) or willingness to undergo training upon joining.

- Proficiency in operating amateur radio equipment and knowledge of basic radio communication principles.

- Strong commitment to community service and willingness to volunteer during emergencies and special events.

- Ability to work effectively in a team environment and communicate clearly and concisely during high-stress situations.
